The Big Lunch Feeds Community Spirit

The Big Lunch Feeds Community Spirit

Over the summer, several Invest Local communities have taken part in The Big Lunch.

The Big Lunch is an initiative by Eden Project Communities to bring people together over the simple act of sharing food. For Invest Local communities, holding a Big Lunch was a great way to bring the whole community together. And each community held the event in their own way.

We Are Plas Madoc wanted to include older people in their Big Lunch, which took place in June. The group opted for an afternoon tea and a cake baking competition.

In Caerau, the Big Lunch was hosted by the Caerau Development Trust – known locally for their fantastic food. The food was definitely the focus of the event, but there was some outdoor fun for the children too, with a slip and slide that kept them busy all afternoon in the sunshine.

Hubberston and Hakin also opted for a family fun day, with pony rides, bouncy castles and The group also used the event as an opportunity to feed back all the great work they’ve been doing in the community, and get local people’s ideas and opinions for the next phase of the programme.

In North Wales, Maesgeirchen turned their event into a massive ‘Unity in the Community’ event for a whole day, with road closures and a festival atmosphere. The event featured everything from stilt walkers to school uniform swaps, face painting and fairground rides and – of course – hundreds of metres of bunting! Residents also got the chance to meet local boxing legend Dave Davies and see his impressive selection of trophies and medals -including his Commonwealth Games medal. Here’s a photo montage from the organisers, PMP.
