Group members from five different Invest Local areas visited an inspiring project in the west of Cardiff recently.
15 Invest Local community members spent the day at Action in Caerau and Ely (ACE). ACE is a community organisation and charity working in the heart of the communities of Caerau and Ely, offering health, wellbeing and community support. The organisation works to an asset-based model of community development, putting local people at the heart of everything that they do.
ACE’s vision is: “Vibrant, equal and resilient communities for all, where people find fulfilment in themselves, each other, and the place where they live.”
During the visit, ACE’s Development Manager Dave Horton told us about the work that they do at ACE, and we had a tour of the facilities – from the welcoming ‘community lounge’ where local people meet, chat and help themselves to a cuppa, to the community shop and clothes bank, and the newly-opened community pantry.
We also heard about the recently-announced £1.65million funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, to celebrate and bring to centre stage the incredible Caerau Iron Age hillfort.
A group member from We Are Plas Madoc, who came on the visit said: “It was a very beneficial visit to a great project - I have lots of information to feedback to the rest of the group.”
