COVID STORIES: COMMUNITY WELLBEING IN LLWYNHENDY

In Llwynhendy, Llanelli, the Invest Local group has been looking after the wellbeing of residents during the Covid-19 lockdown.

The Our Llwynhendy group have been funding activity packs for various groups in the local area. They’ve also been helping to deliver the packages to families, young people and older people to keep the community busy and connected during the coronavirus crisis.

The wellbeing initiatives have been a collaboration between Our Llwynhendy and other groups, organisations and individuals in the community, including the Llwynhendy and Pemberton Food Bank, Ty Enfys and the Llwynhendy Integrated Children’s Centre.

125 families in Llwynhendy received craft packs, with materials and instructions to keep children busy. A further 20 families received a sensory craft pack and afternoon tea for younger children.

Local teenagers got their own wellbeing packs, with activities and exercises to look after their mental health. And not to forget the older members of the community, 100 afternoon teas were delivered to Tir Einion care home over the VE day celebration weekend.

The group have also supported the local food bank with funding during the crisis, as well as activity packs for families using the service.

Natasha Horne, Chair of the Our Llwynhendy, said: “It’s has been so great that all the organisations in Llwynhendy have come together to support the community during lockdown - it’s shown amazing community spirit! Local people have been really pleased to receive the packs, and I hope they’ve brought some enjoyment and distraction to people during the crisis.”
