Building Communities Trust (BCT) is working in some of Wales’ most disadvantaged areas by supporting local people to develop their own plans to improve their lives and their communities.
BCT was established in 2014 with the support of a Big Lottery Fund endowment of over £16m. We offer highly flexible long term funding and skilled staff support to a small number of communities, who decide how to invest up to £1million over 10 years.
Our ethos is based on asset based principles, recognising that there are inherent skills in all communities and people, and is driven by the views of the communities we work with.
Our current Board of eight are looking to add up to three new trustees to our team. This offers an exciting opportunity to play a major role in driving forward new ways of tackling disadvantage and supporting communities in Wales.
In particular we are looking for people who share our values and who can offer at least one of the following skills:
Experience of supporting successful, sustainable, community-based projects
Policy and public affairs
Human resources and people management
Leadership and governance
In this recruitment round we are especially looking for Trustees who are able to work in some of the communities we support to appraise and support the development of their spending plans, and we would especially welcome at least one more trustee based in north Wales.
Our Board meets four times a year, usually in Cardiff. In addition we have a Finance and General Purposes sub group and a Programme sub group, both of which also meet four times a year to guide the work of the full Board. We reimburse Board members for all travel and accommodation expenses. We utilise video facilities to allow Board members from north Wales to participate in meetings.
